Tale of Purulia- an information reach story
When and why to go for Purulia tour?
March is the best time for Purulia tour. In this season the whole purulia becomes red , painted with the colour of palash flowers and the heat is also quite familier at this time. Purulia is a very important district in West Bengal state of India. Here you will find lakes, mountains, waterfalls, everything that makes it a perfect weekend destination.

My Purulia tour experience:
We have been wanting this Purulia tour for a long time. But the plan was never successful. But this time the plan is full proof. Four months ago, we bought reservation tickets and went out with 9 friends to see Purulia. Today I will tell you that story.
Purulia tour Day1:
Today we landed at Purulia from Howrah station at 11:05 pm on Chakradharpur passenger (train) for our purulia tour.
Purulia Youth Hostel :
After breakfast at a shop next to the station, we arranged for a car, and checked into the Purulia Youth Hostel. The distance from the station is ten minutes approx. I had already booked three rooms in the youth hostel. After freshening up, we went out at 10 in the morning to rediscover Purulia.

Today is the first day of our purulia tour and we will visit the spots near Ayodhya hills today.
Pakhi Pahar (Bird Hill):
Our first destination is Pakhi Pahar. Arriving, I saw that the place is quite empty even during the busiest time of the year. You are independent here. If you want, you can climb the hill. No one will stop. We climbed quite a bit. No sound can be heard here except the sound of birds.
Pakhi Pahar |
However, the name of this Pakhi Pahar is for another reason. For the bird paintings carved on the hill. The work of this carving started in 1994-95 under the leadership of a Bengali artist Shri Chit De. About 65 birds have been painted on the hill so far, one of which is about 100 feet high and the work is still going on. However, the original name of this hill was Murra Bhuru. Murra means bald head and Bhuru means hill.
Charida village (Mask villege):
After having lunch on the way, we came to Charida village also known as Mukhosh gram (Mask Villege) .
In this village, masks used for chow dance are made at home. Masks are being made in almost every house. Looks much like Kumortuli in Calcutta. The livelihood of the whole village depends on this. If you want, you can also collect masks as memento from here. Properly packed, there is no chance of breaking. The mask is made by coating the paper structure with clay and painting over it.
Mask shop at Charida |
There is also a small museum in the village, where the handicrafts of various artists are taken care of to show to the tourists. There is no entrance fee.
Along the way, I saw many unnamed flowering trees. Really beautiful!
Nature's own hand-arranged garden. Anyway, After that we will go to Lower Dam and Upper Dam.
Ayodhya Pahar Lower dam and upper dam(PPSP PROJECT):
PPSP Project |
These dams were built in the Indo-Japan collaboration. The Upper Dam is built relatively higher than the Lower Dam. The demand for electricity is less during the day. So then the water is taken from the lower dam to the upper dam with the help of peas. At night when the demand for electricity is high, water is released from the upper dam by turning the turbine to generate electricity and the water is again pumped from the lower dam to the upper dam the next day. The Upper Dam surrounded by greenery is truly enchanting.
Moyur Pahar (Peacock Heal):
The last spot of today is Moyur pahar (Peacock Hill). What a joy it is to watch the sunset from Moyur Pahar Cannot be expressed in language. Like nature's own hand-built watch tower. It is really a matter of luck to sit in this quiet desert and watch the sun set over the mountains. After watching the sunset, we went back to the youth hostel.

Purulia tour Day 2:
Today is Dol Jatra (Festival of colours) . Today is the second day of our tour. Today we will go again to Ayodhya hills, to see the rest of the spots. Actually it's a three day trip. Two days around the Ayodhya hills and the last day around Baranti. So this morning we checked out and left with luggage. We will stay the night at Joychandi Pahar Youth Hostel. The car would turn us around all day and leave us there. Our chatter and naughtiness continued on the way. For those who will go to Purulia tour afterwards, the roads in Purulia are currently being maintained very well. The road is very shiny. Today we will first go to Bamni Falls. You can also say today's hot spot.
'S' turning view point:
On the way there was a view point. Nimaida said it is called the 'S' turning view point. It looks like the Silk Road of Sikkim. I forgot to say, our driver's name is Nimai.
Purulia 'S' turning view point |
Going further, we saw some young boys and girls making and selling garlands of Palash flowers. Can this greed be controlled anymore? Afterall we are here to see this Palash. Knowing that we were harming nature by encouraging them, we bought garlands and weared them.
Bamni waterfalls:
After that we reached Bamni wateralls. If you want to see this beautiful waterfalls, you have to do a little physical exercise. If you go down the stairs, you will see this fountain. Although the Waterfalls has descended step by step. The first step is not very low, but to see the full waterfalls you have to do a little more physical exercise and go down the steps.

Basontotsav (Holi) during purulia tour:
We decided to celebrate the basontotsav (spring festival) here today. According to the plan, we got out of the car with Abir (a kind of skin friendly colours). Reaching the Waterfalls , we celebrated the festival by smearing abir each other. At the end of the game we took a bath also in the water of the Waterfalls . Your mind will definitely become good when you come here. However, it is better not to think of bathing in the rainy season without an experienced person. The emerald green color of the reservoir that merges with this Waterfalls will also fascinate you.

Pathar Khadan/ Marble Lake:
So friends, we will now move on to the Marble Lake (Stone quarry). The cutten stones of this place was used to make a dam and as a result of cutting this stone rain water has accumulated in this lake. This lake has a specialty. If you shout a little louder here, you will hear its echo sound. But you have to come here in person to test.

Suicide Point :
After that we are going to Suicide Point. This is a view point. Not all drivers stop cars here. However, the scene here is indescribable. We are fascinated by this drone view of Muruguma Dam below.

Muruguma Dam:
After that we saw Muruguma Dam. A reservoir full of blue water surrounded by greenery. This is the last spot around Ayodhya hills and of today as well. After that we reached Joychandi Pahar Youth Hostel in about 3 hours journey.

Purulia tour Day 3:
Joychandi Pahar Youth Hostel :
We are now at Joychandi Pahar Youth Hostel. It was eight o'clock in the morning when we arrived tomorrow. We sat on the edge of the pond in front of the youth hostel for an hour and saw the form of the mountain in the light of the full moon. I had never spent time like this before. I kept remembering Shankar's character in the novel Chander Pahar . But then I could not understand the environment of the youth hostel so well. Out in the morning was shocked by its beauty and fell in love with it. This youth hostel is in the lap of joychandi hill.
There is also a shortcut to the Joychandi hill behind it. Trek a little and go down to a field. From there the stairway to climb the hill. A few more hills will call you by hand. If you want, you can also climb up there. But at your own risk. This is not the main road to climb Joychandi hill. The main road is a little detour. If you go to the left side of the road in front of the youth hostel, you will find that field.
Joychandi Pahar (Hill):
Today is the last day of our purulia tour. Now we are at the foot of Joychandi Pahar. Let's go upstairs. Quite a few stairs to go .
Upstairs we saw the temple of goddess Joychandi's temple. Almost everyone who is coming is worshiping mother Joychandi. And there are some flat places. From where the surroundings can be seen from afar. After spending about half an hour we got down.

Garhpanchkot Pancharatna Temple :
Then We went to Garhpanchkot Pancharatna Temple . This temple is located at the foot of Panchet hill with five peaks. The temple was demolished during the Bargi attack. Later, it was renovated at the initiative of the state government.

We also saw an alone Deul near the temple. The memory of the Bargi attack is still lingering.

Panchet Dam :
After the temple we saw Panchet Dam. We also did a little boating with the Fisher mans.

Baranti:
We reached Baranti in the afternoon. We saw a watch tower in a resort on the shores of Lake Baranti. And we got up straight. The whole village can be seen from the Watch Tower. After a while we went to the other side of the lake, and saw the familiar form of Baranti Lake, which we had seen many times in the pages of many books and on the Internet only. This sunset is the specialty here. Don't miss the sunset when you come here.

At last the car dropped us off at Adra station. We took the night train and returned home in the morning.
Our Purulia tour ends here.
