Introduction:

Khirai.  The name was not that known to us till a few years ago. However, the place suddenly came to the fore with the help of some YouTuber's videos.  Like many, I was surprised to see those videos.  We have such a beautiful place so close but I had not known for so long.  We have all heard of the Valley of Flowers in Uttarakhand.  But did you know you have a huge valley of flowers at your fingertips!  Yes, it is easily accessible from Kolkata city.

After knowing all this, can you keep yourself at home?  I went out to see this beauty with my own eyes.

How to reach /Trains to Khirai:

If you want to go there, you have to reach Khirai railway station first.  If you want to go from Howrah, there are many local trains from Howrah station to Khirai station.  The rent will be only 20 rupees.  That means a total of 40 rupees to come and go.  There are many trains of South Eastern branch like Medinipur local, Kharagpur local, Panshkura local, etc. to go to Khirai.

Khirai is also accessible by road to see the route click here

It will take a couple of hours to reach Khirai from Howrah.  Get off the train and walk along Platform 3 to the Kansai Bridge to reach the Valley of Flowers.  You have to walk straight along the railway line.  On the left side of the bridge you will find white flower fields and on the right side you will find colorful flowers.

Things to see at Khirai:

We went to the right first.  It was as if I came to another world.  Acres of land became just flowers and flowers.  As far as the eye can see only flowers.  One by one flowers have been cultivated in one area.  Somewhere marigold, somewhere aster, somewhere again morog flowers have been cultivated.

From a distance I saw a place surrounded by green cloth.  It looks like a poultry farm.  I went to the front and saw flowers here too.  Dahlia flowers have been cultivated here.

But a question arose in my mind.  In the video I saw a white flower field.  Where is that?  According to a local, I started walking along the village's dirt road across the bridge.  It took ten to fifteen minutes.  It is not possible to describe in words where I went.

Just like standing in front of the sea, it seems as if the sea has merged with the sky and this valley of white flowers has also merged with the sky. The whole area is covered by Chrysanthemum or Chandramullika flowers.

I saw so many colors together for the first time today, I also saw so many white ones today.  I am insane about this wandering.  Whenever I need to go to Burrabazar (A large and famous wholesale market in Kolkata, westbengal, India), I walk back through Jagannath Ghat Flower Market.  Usually without any need.  Just to see the flowers.  But I have never seen so many flowers there.

In fact, there is a practice of flower cultivation in this place Khirai and its surrounding areas.  The farmers here cultivate flowers and supply them to the big flower markets.  Besides, flowers are packed and exported from here.  When you come here, you can also visualize the scene of that flower packing.  Many of you may have seen the flower fields, but the railway line passing by the fields, the train of the South Eastern Railway passing over it, the sweet behaviour of the farmers here, will really take a different place in your mind.

Many people says that city people go to Khirai villege and fall the farmers in trouble by disturbing in their work.  However, this statement is not correct at all.  People buy flowers and bring them even if in low amount.  And when outsiders go, farmers also get a higher price for flowers.  So in this case they are happy.  I went and saw the fact myself.  You may not buy flowers if you want. Talk to farmers, and enjoy organic air.  A whole day can be spent effortlessly here.  Just don't do anything that hurts anyone.

Time to visit Khirai:

The best time to visit Khirai is from the third week of January to the last week of February.  Other times than this time but you may not see the flowers.

Caution:

But there are a few things you must keep in mind.  This place is not a tourist spot.  You will not find special arrangements for accommodation, food and drinking water.  So you must bring the necessary food and drinking water with you.  You have to walk about 1.5 km from the station to reach the flower fields and again 1.5 km at the time of return.  So if you love flowers and are physically able to walk around the whole place after a two hour train journey, then think of going to Khirai otherwise you will not like the place at all.  Again, if you want to come back from Khirai with happy memories, then you must carry food and drinking water with you.

Budget:

If you start the journey from Howrah then you have to spend only rupees 40/- as railway ticket cost for a round journey and after Khirai you have to walk. So the fixed cost is only 40 . Other expenses for eating ,drinking and buying flower depends on you.
